Austen-isbly

Did I tell you? I am  an Austenerd. I love Jane Austen. Cliche  I know, but my favorite book is not surprisingly "Pride and Prejudice" but "Persuasion". Is Mark Darcy my favorite Hero of all times, umm, no. why the blog post silly? 'coz I went to the library and saw this right next to the free stuff.

free stuff at the library

I'm pretty sure millennials dont know what this is. These are Video Cassettes and you need a VCR to play this. If you don't know what a VCR is, you might not even know Colin Firth's portrayal of Darcy. BBC adaptation of the book came way before the Keira Knightly version. Colin Firth in my mind is Mark Darcy. No One, (Sorry Matthew MacFadden!) can/or ever will be a better Darcy than Mr. Firth.

Why then am I taking a picture and not grabbing this amazing deal(its free!), 'coz I don't own a VCR. I used to, a long time ago. As I'm enlightened every day by my 8 yr old. I'm OLD.

Her: Did you build our house.

Me: Its about 70 yrs old.

Her: Did you build it?

I did afterwards stop at Walmart to see if they sell VCRs, and the 18 yr old working the register looked at me nonplussed and asked me pointblank "Whats a VCR?". He then called the manager who looked at me and asked me "Why?", I said I need to play some old video cassettes. The 18- yr old then jumped in and said. "Look on eBay, that's where they sell antiques".

So, no I dont plan on adopting this series of antiques..๐Ÿ˜†

Why is Persuasion my favorite book? 'Coz Anne in my eyes is the greatest of Austen's heroine's and the unlikely heroine. She seems insipid, but she isn't. Even with that insufferable family, that she un waveringly stands behind, she learns to value and trust her own opinions and learns to put her own self ahead of others, quietly, at first, but finds her voice, eventually. Its hard to be that constant, barring consequences, yet the transformation is subtle and veritable. Elizabeth is a great heroine in terms of never settling and believing that she's worth everything she gets. Her candor is admirable, and she is most certainly strikingly beautiful. Constant she is not, uncompromising or forgiving she's seldom. Her transformation is not so much a change in trait as it is a change in perception. Easy come, easy go. I'm sure if you're an Austen-tatious fan you know all this, no point in belaboring.

So Austens-ibly although I am an Austen fangirl, Captain Wentworth IMO, wasn't perfect mate for Anne,  unlike the Darcy-Elizabeth match-up (yes I do think they were perfect for each other). May I have permission to use Jerry Maguire here? "They didn't complete each other". Would you like some crackers with all that cheese?๐Ÿ˜‰

If I was to pair her with someone I would pick John Thornton. Who you may ask is John Thornton? click on the link below to find out.

Also if you have Netflix then the BBC adaptation is pretty amazing. Watch it for Richard Armitage (swoon!) if you will ๐Ÿ˜. Now don't get me wrong Margaret Hale is a great heroine, but I feel like Anne and John are a better pairing. Too bad the Austen and Gaskell couldn't collaborate, in all fairness Elizabeth Gaskell would only have been about 7 ish when Austen died.

I was told by someone, my blog posts seem too self absorbed and whiny. True, I thought. All the while I want to write about other things I seem to be writing about myself. Here's my dilemma, how do I extricate myself from my narrative? I mean to always write about perceptions as guileless as I can manage. In the end it is still mine- born out of my nuances and psyche. So dear readers if you feel like I am omnipresent its because I have something to do with them. If not, my blog title should be a dead giveaway. ๐Ÿ˜
